Hearty Bean Burgers

In a large mixing bowl, mash the beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

Add the breadcrumbs, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cumin, soy sauce, and olive oil to the mashed beans.

Mix the ingredients until thoroughly combined. The mixture should be sticky but manageable. If too wet, add more breadcrumbs; if too dry, a splash of water or soy sauce.

Shape the mixture into 4 patties. Chill the patties in the fridge for about 10 minutes to firm them up.

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook the bean patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, until a crust forms and they're heated through.

Serve the bean burgers on buns with your choice of toppings such as lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard, and ketchup.

2 cups canned beans (black, kidney, or pinto), drained and rinsed

1 cup breadcrumbs

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon cumin

1/4 cup soy sauce

1 tablespoon olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste
